The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited the public to vote on its website for their favourite gown, and the competition is called Oscars Designer Challenge 2010. Voters can see the footage of all the gowns on the official website before casting their vote.
Fernanda Carneiro, Los Angeles; Elda De La Rosa, Chicago; Ivy Higa, New York; Phong Hong, Los Angeles; Rania Salibi, Phoenix; Oday Shakar, Los Angeles; Ari Sheuhmelian, Los Angeles; Oliver Tolentino, Los Angeles; and Kelsy Zimba, New York are the designers participating in the Challenge. The nine designers have been shortlisted by the Oscar fashion co-ordinator Patty Fox, along with an advisory committee. All of the nine designs were showcased at a runway show at the Academy’s Beverly Hills headquarters on February 23.
The winner would be announced at the Oscars Red Carpet… 2010, a live arrivals show airing on ABC on March 7. The winning designer will receive two tickets to attend the Oscars ceremony as a prize, along with having their creation worn at the Awards.
The Oscars website would also present a web series documenting the competition from March 3 to 8, called Oscars Designer Challenge: Behind the Dress.
